EDUCATION
“Here at Jollytots, we support your child’s learning and development through stimulating and challenging indoor and outdoor play opportunities. We fully believe that children learn best when they enjoy the activities they are taking part in. Our activities are carefully planned on a weekly basis around the child’s age and stage of development, as well as through daily observations. The wide variety of experiences and activities we offer are reflective of your child’s changing needs and interests and are intended to enrich the overall development of your child.” – Nursery Manager
THE FOUNDATION PHASE
The Foundation Phase is a government framework which supports the learning and development of children aged between 3-7 years. It encourages children to be creative, imaginative and to have fun, making learning more enjoyable and more effective. The Foundation Phase places great emphasis on children learning through hands-on play opportunities.
The Foundation Phase has 7 areas of learning:
Physical Development (gross and fine motor skills)
Includes supporting children to be active and interactive, and to develop their control, coordination and movement.
Includes supporting children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials and to support them to share their thoughts, ideas and feelings.
Creative Development
Mathematical Development
Includes supporting children to develop and improve their skills in counting, understanding and using numbers and to explore shape, spaces and measures.
Knowledge and Understanding of the world
Includes guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment.
Personal and Social Development (well being and cultural diversity)
Includes supporting children to develop a positive sense of themselves, and others, to form positive relationships and develop respect for others, to develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings, to understand appropriate behaviour in a group, and to have confidence in their abilities.

Language, Literacy and Communication Skills
Includes supporting children to link sounds and letters and to begin to read and write, to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves, and to speak and listen in a range of situations.
Welsh Language development
Children are given the opportunity through play/active learning as well as structured activities to learn the Welsh language gradually and naturally through first hand experiences to encourage a positive attitude towards the Welsh language.
Carefully planned activities will be offered daily to support the 7 areas of learning within the Foundation Phase through a mix of adult-led and child-initiated activity. Our staff will guide their development through warm, positive interaction to give each child the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life.
